cott Sweeney is a Shareholder in the Firm. Prior to joining the Firm, Scott was involved in a variety of complex, multi-party commercial litigation matters. Since that time, Scott’s practice has focused primarily upon fidelity and surety litigation, construction defect litigation and employment law. Scott has also trained surety and insurance claims handlers and numerous employers in a variety of areas including the intricacies of surety law, employment law and workplace safety.
After spending two years in southern Argentina in the early 1990’s, Scott is fluent in Spanish, and maintains a genuine love of the Argentine culture and history. He has represented a number of Spanish speaking clients over the years and has worked in furtherance of a variety of cultural issues affecting Spanish speaking persons.
In early 2008, Scott was called upon to utilize those bilingual skills to track down a defendant in a personal injury case who had fled the country for the mountains of Mexico after a fatal shooting. After arriving in Hermosillo and travelling by himself for four hours into an area of remote villages in northern Sonora, Scott worked with the locals to locate the well hidden, lean-to residence of the fugitive defendant. With an adventure reading like a good Clive Cussler novel, Scott simply chalks it up to another week in the life of a Hustead Law Firm attorney.
Scott received his J.D.,from the University of Colorado in 1997, and B.A. in History from Brigham Young University in 1993. He is admitted to practice in the Colorado and New Mexico state courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Scott has completed seven marathons, one Olympic distance triathlon, and is currently an avid cyclist – he usually commutes to the office 35 miles per day on his fixed gear bike. He and his wife Shirl are the proud parents of three children.
